SDT presents a powerful double bill, NQR (Not Quite Right) and Drift.
Choreographed by SDT Artistic Director Janet Smith, Associate Director Fellow Marc Brew and SDT’s Dance Agent for Change Caroline Bowditch, NQR is an irreverent enquiry into ‘normality’ examining our eccentricities that defy attempts to fit into the mould.
"Stark brilliance" Scotsman; "At turns humorous and thought-provoking" The List
Drift by James Wilton delights audiences by the highly charged physicality and daring surprises the dancers throw at each other, "an impressively powerful duet of exhilarating movement" (Ballet.co.uk).
SDT Artistic Director Janet Smith on creating NQR
“NQR, is a three-way collaboration between Caroline Bowditch, Marc Brew and I. We're collaborating to ask questions; who can dance? how can we broaden expectations of what it can be? Caroline brings probing big-picture questions, propositions and infectious humour and optimism and Marc an insatiable appetite as a dance maker and tenacity to solve problems.”
SDT Dancer Natalie Trewinnard on Drift
"I feel that the piece is a snapshot of a couple’s relationship – by the end they have moved forward but have not been able to resolve their issues. It’s like a game of trust, but the woman likes to cry wolf."
SDT is performing at the Fringe as part of Made in Scotland, an initiative to showcase theatre and dance from Scotland supported by the Edinburgh Festivals Expo fund.
