Moscow’s Co.Theatre presents a unique dramatic experience, "a revelation striking in its frankness" (Mir Teatra). Neither words nor décor are needed in this emotionally engaging production based only on gesture, mime, dance and music. The story of betrayal, forgiveness and happiness unveils concealed pains and anxiety. Its turbulence awakes spectators' bared and intense feelings, making them reflect on their own experiences. Its appearance is far from the classical Russian ballet or drama, but the blend of physical theatre and contemporary dance in the empty space creates a scene just as impressive and yet more dramatic.
The Co.Theatre company was founded in 2006 in Moscow. "Theatre arts and drama aren’t solely about literature," says Ivan Karpenko, the Co.Theatre founder and the director of Phantom Pains. That is why the Co.Theatre is keen on experiments with theatre that go beyond words and texts.
The Co.Theatre has been perfoming in various venues across Russia, including the renowned Meyerhold Centre in Moscow, and was awarded several times as a prominent young theatre (in Moscow and Kaliningrad).
