Two manic weeks of late night, vodka-fuelled cabarets, celebrating the work of Anton Chekhov and Tadeusz Kantor. Every performance will feature The Roxy Russian and Polish Vodka Bar.
The first week sees Cabaret Chekhov, devised and directed by Michael Earley, celebrate Russian writer Anton Chekhov's 150th anniversary. It features world stage premieres of his earliest, least known and most surreal stories newly dramatised for the stage from translations by Rosamund Bartlett.
Each entr’acte between performances welcomes legendary writers and theatre artists talking about their take on Chekhov, including Scottish painter and playwright John Byrne, Mabou Mines' Lee Breuer and members of New York's Wooster Group. More special guests and stand-up performers appearing at the International Festival, Book Festival and Festival Fringe join in the celebration.
A share of the proceeds from Cabaret Chekhov/Kabaret Kantor are in aid of The Demarco Archive and the Demarco European Art Foundation to support new initiatives. Works from the Archive will be on exhibition at the Roxy Arts House.
