“I’ll pull my eyes out – Greek style”
A vision of North London gone bad, Greek is Berkoff’s modern retelling
of the Oedipus myth. Follow Eddy through the streets of Tufnell Park
as he gets rid of the ‘British plague,’ battles the sphinx
and (unconsciously) marries his own mum.
A fast-paced journey through a
malformed Capital, Greek is an endlessly changing display of physical
theatre. Actors melt from one character
into another, populating Berkoff’s terrifying vision with leering
faces and broken bodies. Stuffed full of incest and twisted imagery,
Eddy’s nightmarish world threatens to trap him forever.
Will he escape,
or has Fate got other plans?

Reviews
Based on Berkoff’s vision of ‘Oedipus’, this
well co-ordinated production is incredibly slick and conveys a raw and
edgy London. The
action is quick but smooth and full of clever, witty humour that flows
throughout to create an intelligent and unique performance. As a stylised
production, it makes good use of aesthetics, such as the dramatic make-up;
the physical actions are also impressive. A flawlessly delivered script
combined with a fierce and determined pace gives the production a great
deal of attitude, although at times this can be quite intense and difficult
to follow. Diverse movements and spacing give the piece a visual sharpness
whilst a precise use of rhythmical dialogue portrays a charismatic and
slightly mischievous production.
