FORGET REHAB, SEE THIS SHOW!

Like Winehouse, without the whine, Rio & Georgina combine theatricality with infectious melodies to offer the perfect Fringe experience.

Their original songs for piano, guitar and voice range from light and humorous to melodramatic ‘punk cabaret’. Through intelligent and insightful lyrics they capture the wayward attention of an audience anaesthetised by the gormless pop of today. Their songs cover all important aspects of life: love, hatred, denial, alcoholism, an unhealthy adoration of Vivien Leigh and much more.

Rio & Georgina are a fresh and exciting new talent. For the last few years they have been steadily amassing fans as half of the indie-rock band Orange Room, who have an established local following. In July 2008 they will be appearing at the renowned music festival Guilfest alongside prolific punk bands Blondie and The Damned, as well as a host of popular bands such as Bowling For Soup and Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong.

In the past year the duo have struck out in the direction of acoustic and cabaret music. As a musical act they have turned down the volume to become spokespeople for a generation trapped in a culture of widening temptations and increasing restrictions.

Rio & Georgina’s music sits broadly in the anti-folk genre, alongside Regina Spektor, Amanda Palmer, Frank Turner, Kate Nash and Belle & Sebastian. Less obvious but perhaps more significant inspirations are The Clash, David Bowie and The Pixies.

‘Anti-Winehouse’ provides an alternative to the clichéd radio-fodder that British music has become. It promises to be unmissable for any Fringe-goer!
